Campus Visit Notes for Miami University-Oxford

Visit Description:

Info session perfect - 1/2 hour total for presentation (with slides on large screen), 5 or so minute video concluded it. We were invited to ask questions and invited to come in and talk with anyone after the tour privately. We didn't, but it was nice to be offered. We had a full house due to a local school holiday and they handled it very well. Plenty of guides meant each tour group only had maybe 12 people (1/2 students, 1/2 parent(s)).

We saw a classroom (comfy and nice and small), a model dorm room (typical, clean, modern), the ice arena (hockey on one side and synchronized figure skating on the other), part of the gym-track-workout facilities which appeared to be getting a lot of use, the large aquatic center (with lazy river!), the main library, several dining options (main cafeteria and maybe 8 more a la carte options - loved them). Beautiful buildings and grounds, well maintained, clean, construction/renovation going on.

Nice overview of undergrad/teaching centric philosophy, majors offered, the excellent automatic merit scholarships (that's mainly why we were there looking...this could be a financial safety for D and I feel bad saying this school is a safety for anyone because it is clearly a first choice for many...D would prefer to leave the state but is now interested in Miami).

Miami made a great impression on both of us.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

We were in a bit of a hurry so ate at La Bodega in town. Delicious sandwiches, soups etc made to go or eat there. Crowded but efficient and clearly popular.
