Campus Visit Notes for Miami University-Oxford

Visit Description:

Oxford is a small college town about half an hour away from Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio. It has your usual collection of college sub and pizza shops, bookstores, Krogers, Walmart etc.,

Seemed pretty idyllic, stopped and talked to a shop owner and a local policemen on patrol on his Segway, polite, very small town attitude. Oxfordians have the attitude that they "look-after" their college students vs some towns where there is a very adversarial relationship between the college and 'townies'.

Campus is traditional and beautiful, none of the architectural 'masterpieces' we saw at OSU and UC.

Hockey is the big sport here, very nice athletics facilities.
Free campus bus runs around town and to satellite campuses in Middletown and Hamilton.

Beautiful library, huge amount of computers/printers etc., for student use.
Tutors (work study?) on standby to help with English, math etc.,

My teenage boy noted that many of the more expensive cars around campus had Illinois plates, we asked some professors and there is a fairly large student contingent from the Chicago area, Miami is a popular pre-med, pre-law, pre-MBA feeder for several Chicago Universities.

Miami students are more loyal to their university than anywhere else I have seen.
