Campus Visit Notes for University of California, San Diego

Visit Description:

I went to UCSD at the beginning of the 2010 Winter session (last week). I am thinking about transferring there in the fall and my community college doesn't start until next week so i went to check it out. I have a friend who lives off campus that is going to school there and i just slept on his floor for a week.

I was kinda concerned about how i would get around. But my friend had an extra student id from someone who used to go to school there and i just printed and pasted my picture on it. The bus drivers don't really look at the picture, just the current sticker.

The reason why i wanted to go was to check out the philosophy classes. I sat in on 6 different philosophy classes. I enjoyed 5 out of the 6 teachers (which is really great for me). I sat in on Metaphysics, The Rationalists, The Empiricists, Philosophy of Action, Philosophy of Science, and Aristotle (which was the one i didn't like too much, although it was still pretty good). Before the first day i was concerned that someone would notice that i wasn't in the class and some sort of awkwardness would ensue. But even though they were relatively small classes (50 students for all of 'em besides the Aristotle class which was 70 i think), i never had a problem. I just stood up when there wasn't enough seats for everyone because i didn't want someone who was actually paying to have to sit on the ground or stand. Everyone probably just thought i was not in the class yet and was trying to add it.

The philosophy classes were way cool. I'm so excited to take upper division philosophy courses instead of the intro stuff i take here at the JC.

I haven't been to any of the other UC campuses, so i can't compare, but i thought the campus was really cool. Almost all the buildings were really cool in a sort of modern architecture sort of way.
